Music in the Mountains PA gives young musicians an opportunity to
concentrate on the study and performance of chamber music in a
beautiful, peaceful setting in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania.
The program provides an experience that is unique in its intensity
of musicianship and community.
Members of The Philadelphia Trio, assisted by other faculty, work
with a select group of students, chosen by audition, ages
13-20, to encourage them in exploring some of the chamber
music repertoire for strings and piano. The small size of the
chamber music camp enables concentrated interaction between the
coaches and the students throughout the two week summer session
while living in the small village of Eagles
Mere, Pennsylvania.
The students have two daily sessions of chamber music coaching with
MIM faculty. The basic study of music theory, ear-training and music
history is also part of the daily schedule. As an important part
of the experience, students have two performance opportunities,
the first at local churches in town and the final concert at the
DeWire Center ending two weeks of successful music making and great
learning.
Located in Sullivan County, at an elevation
of over 2000 feet and with a year-round population of 250 (more in
the summer), Eagles Mere is 33 miles north of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania,
approximately 160 miles from Philadelphia (about 3 hours by car).
It has a grocery, bank, post office, local conservancy, shops, a beautiful
natural lake with beach, and trails for hiking. Medical and dental
care are available in the near-by town of Laporte.

“…After going there for three years now, I feel
that there is no place better than MIM to really explore one's
musicality. MIM really helped me learn to follow as well as lead.
The intense chamber music program truly makes playing an instrument
worth it”….

“…Music in the Mountains is something I look forward
to every year. It's so incredible how much I improve after working
with the students and coaches. With the atmosphere, the people
and the beautiful chamber music literature, I have to say that
it is the best music camp I have ever been to…”
